She owes me Euro 2.50!
The trip from Sandvik back to Mariehamn was a relatively easy one and, since I was in no great hurry, I took three days over it. The weather was kind and Mother Nature seemed to be saying 'OK, you passed the test, I'll leave you in peace for a while' As I mentioned at the begiining of my trip one of my favourite harbours in the Aland Isles is Rodhamn. It's only about 10NM from Mariehamn's western harbour and I sail right past it on the way to or from the harbour. So I decided to pay it another visit on my way back. Whe I arrived it was far busier than on my earlier visit three months earlier. Then there were three other boats in harbour; this time there were six! And the good looking blonde lady who runs the harbour office and shop during the season was there. (This probability of course played no part in deciding me to visit the harbour once again!) Apart from feasting my eyes on this Swedish vision I also wanted to feast on her home baked rolls for breakfast the following day so I made my way to the shop, over the rocky summit of a small hill, to place my order. To my delight she remembered me from last year and we spent a few pleasant moments (well they were pleasant for me) 'catching up'. I ordered two rolls and paid her the Euro 2.50 for them. She would drop them off at my boat early the following morning during her 'delivery round'. I had an enjoyable walk over the island that evening and another enjoyable dinner in the cockpit as the sun made it's way to bed. All was right with the world once again. I wanted to be off early the next day so hoped my rolls would be amongst the first to be delivered, but 7.30, then 8.00, then 8.45 came, but no rolls. I went in search of her but the shop was closed. Unusual in the season since she and her family were normally amongst the first to greet the day. I hung around for a short while but eventually returned to Toytown, had a cup of tea and bickies for breakfast, and slipped moorings about 9.30am. Disappointed 'cos now next year I shall have to visit again to claim the two rolls she owes me!
